Born and raised in Hagonoy, Bulacan of the Philippines, Agnes De Joya wanted a better life for her children upon arriving in the United States. It wasn't until the late 1980's when Agnes decided that she wanted to have a business of her own, specifically in selling desserts. While there weren't many Filipino restaurants in the early 90's, Agnes was one of the first to start the growing trend in National City, which is now known as "Filipino town" in San Diego County. Since the year 2000, her eldest daughter, Maybelline, has opened up her own Filipino Desserts Plus in Chula Vista and Mira Mesa with her husband, Derrick. Agnes passed away in 2012, but her legacy lives on through her daughters.
At Filipino Desserts Plus, we strive to "bring back home" in our food and desserts. While evolving and trying different types of ingredients and recipes, we strive to keep the Filipino culture present through our desserts and food. Filipino Desserts Plus continues to be a family-run business with three locations throughout San Diego County.
